Miss S. Chiguna was a Walmajarri woman from Djugerari, a small community approximately 200kms outside Fitzroy Crossing in the East Kimberley. She had a cheeky vibrancy to her and brought much warmth and joy into the Nagula Jarndu space. Her work drew on themes from her desert country including bush tukka such as the tartaku (bush coconut), which is an insect gall that grows into a ‘coconut fruit’ on the bloodwood tree. The ‘coconut’ is broken off the tree and cracked open to eat and drink the juicy inside, providing a rich source of protein. It is best found in the Dry Season, around May to August. Nagula Jarndu is honored to be keeping Miss C's legacy alive, continuing to print her works and share her knowledge with our customers and community.
